It’s Tuesday morning and you’re up at 6:20 am, a little earlier than usual. Your Palm Treo smartphone wakes you with an incoming e-mail from your husband, Michael, who’s been in Chicago on a business trip the last three days. He was supposed to return tonight but his business meetings will delay him another 24 hours. Already your busy day just got busier: one parent at home base has to cover everything today. You don’t worry though. You’ve got another “go-to guy”: EasyReach™ service is installed on your smartphone. You decide to get in an extra mile on the treadmill before you wake the kids at 7:00 am for school.
Daniel, aged 9, is in 4th grade. He's on the soccer at team his elementary school. His favorite food is pizza. He loves Harry Potter. He's read all the books twice and, lately, has been reading them to Emily. “He such a great kid,” you tell everyone.
Emily is another story. Age 6 and in 1st grade, she takes piano lessons every Tuesday and Friday afternoon. Her favorite food is definitely ice cream – but she often can't decide whether it's chocolate or strawberry. She's having some difficulty deciding which cereal to eat this morning and later has trouble getting dressed for school: she can't decide between the red dress or the blue skirt and striped blouse, or which pair shoes to wear! “Being six is hard” she tells you, while you wait, car keys in hand. Hard for you? you think, then laugh at yourself. “Today is carpool day, Emily. We can't be late,” you say and Emily immediately decides on the red dress and the black patent leather shoes.
It's 8:30 am and with the kids now at school, the rest of your day begins in earnest. You check your to-do list on your Palm Treo. Ten things to do today. Get your brother, Christopher, a birthday present tops the list. Buying for Chris is always a challenge you think. The last item is to get pizza on the way home from the soccer game. At least you I won't have to cook tonight , you think. And the kids love pizza.
Your best friend Jennifer calls to confirm your lunch date and delivers some great news: Sarah had her baby boy last night – five pounds, eight ounces. “We should send her flowers,” you say. Jennifer agrees and let's you know she's in Room 714; you'll take care of the details. When the call is over, you launch EasyReach on your Palm Treo and select Sarah Miller from your Contact list. You click on the EasyReach Express Shopping drop down menu and select Send Gift . The second option is Flowers: you click on it and select “Mixed Bouquet” and then type in “add Baby's Breath to the bouquet” on the Option line and “Congratulations! Your Best Friends, Jenna and Jennifer” on the Message line for the card. Sarah will love this , you think. Then, next to “Deliver Where” you type in the hospital name, room number, click OK and you're done. It never even hit your to-do list!
You're out and about doing errands on the list – dry cleaning , check; carwash , check; oil change and lube for the SUV , check. It's 11:00am and you're sipping a cappuccino across the street while the SUV is being serviced. You see a bus pass by with an advertisement for a travel company and suddenly you're reminded of that great old movie Now, Voyager , the one with Bette Davis, the one that made you and Michael cry, the one you promised yourself you would add to your Netflix queue next time you remembered the title. Why wait , you think. Not this time . So you whip out your Palm Treo, click on the EasyReach icon, select Netflix and add Now, Voyager to your movie list. Done. Hmmm? you think. A book is a great gift. You remember that in college, Chris was an English major and an avid reader even now. You decide to be creative: I know. I'll buy him Proust's “Remembrance of Things Past” at Amazon.com. So you click on the EasyReach Express Shopping drop down menu and select Send Gift for the second time today. After you click on ‘Books' and enter the title, you see Amazon's book overview. Wow, seven volumes! Over 3,200 pages! That'll show him , you think, after buying it with one click and sending it, gift wrapped, to your home address. He's coming over to the house for dinner next Thursday, but it's really a surprise party.
Maybe it was the Proust, but you suddenly decide to surprise Michael tomorrow night with a romantic dinner for two at that new French restaurant in the city everyone's been raving about. You use EasyReach's 411 service to look up the number on your Palm Treo and you make the call for a reservation at 8:00 pm .
“The Beast” – as Emily calls the family transport – is ready at noon and you're off to meet Jennifer for lunch. You catch up on the latest gossip and what you've been up to when Jennifer asks you about this EasyReach Express Shopping thing that's on your Palm Treo.
“Oh, that. Jan told me about it last week. It's a free mobile shopping program that installs on your smartphone,” you tell her, as you explain how this service seamlessly interacts with your Palm Treo. “It uses my credit card information securely stored in the phone's memory and allows me to complete transactions in less than a minute. It's awesome!”
“But I don't have a Palm Treo like you. I have a Blackberry. Will EasyReach work on my smartphone?” she asks.
“Let's see,”” and you tell her to visit www.easyreach.com right now from Blackberry. At the website she reads “Get It Done Now” is what EasyReach is all about. EasyReach is for people on the move, offering the speed and convenience of instantly being able to complete the kind of to do list items that are forever hounding you in your day-to-day life.' She likes the sound of that. “Wow!” she says as she downloads the free EasyReach application to her Blackberry. But her Express Shopping experience will have to wait a bit: the salads have just arrived.
After lunch, you've got a few more errands to do before going to the kids' school. You arrive at Woodside Elementary at 3:30 pm as usual. But this time your daughter runs excitedly to you and Emily says her teacher read this great picture book in class today and begs, “please, please, can we buy it, mom, please?” This is just too easy , you think: Emily's been two girls in one since she turned six and you know that a new children's picture book is a promise of family time together. So you use EasyReach Express Shopping and buy the book from Amazon.com. A minute late you turn to Emily:
“It's on the way, girl-cat. Now, let's go see Daniel play.” After the soccer game, while the kids are packing up their gear, you use your Palm Treo and fire-up EasyReach yet again. One of the first things you did when you installed the application last week was to use its customizable feature for easy mobile purchase and delivery. You scroll the pull-down menu to Pizza and press Enter. The family's favorite: extra large with pepperoni and green peppers has just been ordered and will be at your door five minutes after you get home.
You used to complain about how much time you spent driving: to shopping, back and forth to school, to soccer practice and music lessons, visiting family and friends. But you found that with just a little better planning, you found ways of reducing the need for, or the length of, a trip or an alternative to driving; and the entire family benefited with a stress free, happier you. EasyReach is the on-the-go solution – your personal assistant in your pocket – that empowers you to operate efficiently, anywhere, anytime, helping you lead a saner life one day at a time.
